Annelise - 5 months, Charlotte at 2 1/2 years

Here are a few pictures we took before Christmas of Annelise at 5 months and Charlotte at 2 1/2 years. Annelise is rolling around now and can almost sit up. She is up on her tummy doing the plank position a lot, rocking, getting ready to take off crawling.

Charlotte is such a joy at this age. She plays by herself well but really loves to do whatever I am doing. She loves going to bible study and told me the other day that, "there is 1 God, and He can do whatever He wants to do!" She also asked David why she couldn't see Jesus and he explained that you ask Him to come live in your heart. She responded with, "I want Jesus to live in my heart!" Charlotte is such a kind thoughful girl!

So much to be thankful for! We had a great Thanksgiving, spending time with family in Spartanburg and Toxaway.

Annelise at 4 months

We had Annelise's 4 month doctor's visit this past week. She weighs 16 lbs, 2 oz (95%) and is 26 and 1/4 inches long (95%). Here are some recent pics of the girls.

Baptism

David was baptized at our church this past Sunday! He was baptized as an infant but has really felt conviction from the Lord to proclaim his faith by being baptized as an adult. Charlotte watched carefully and afterwards exclaimed, "I want to get baptized!" We certainly pray that she will accept Jesus as her savior and be baptized someday! It was a really beautiful moment!

Annelise...such a happy baby!

Annelise at 3 months

Here are some pictures of our sweet girls - Annelise at 3 months and Charlotte at 2.4 years.

Annelise is such a happy baby - hardly ever cries except when trying to get her to go to sleep - she doesn't want to miss anything! She coos at us just about anytime you make eye contact with her. Right now she goes to sleep between 6 and 8 (depending on her last nap) and sleeps until 8 or 9. She still wakes up once at night usually around 2 or 3 am. She usually takes 3 naps a day.

Charlotte is quite the big girl now! She loves to help me "organize" things, line up her toys, and go "shopping." She asks me frequently "whatcha thinking bout mommy?" - we have a constant conversation going! Charlotte is such a sweet girl though and we rarely have serious discipline issues with her - a blessing!

Annelise at 2 months

Here is our sweet girl at 2 months! She weighs 13 lbs 11 oz (95%) and is 24 and 1/2 inches long (95%) - she is a big girl! Annelise is a really happy baby and very curious about everything. She is very content to sit and watch all that goes on around her. She sleeps really well - while at the beach she was sleeping 12 hours! But now back at home (and back to reality?) she is sleeping 12 hours at night but wakes up once to eat. During the day, her sleep patterns are becoming predictable too - she takes 3 naps a day now. We are very blessed to have her in our family!

Annelise at 1 month

Our sweet girl is growing so fast! Annelise weighed 11 lbs 1 oz (95%) and is 22 1/2 inches long (90%) at her doctor visit. She is such a content baby - rarely cries, sleeps, and eats well. She is smiling at us now and is very curious about big sister Charlotte. Hopefully within the next month she'll be sleeping through the night - she already has a good 5 -6 hour stretch which of course mom and dad like :-)

Pedicures!

Yesterday was a milestone in Charlotte's life....she had her first pedicure! Nene took us to get pedicures - Charlotte, me, and Annelise was there too! Charlotte sat very still and watched her video and Annelise was asleep the whole time in the carrier. It was such a treat!

Annelise's Birth Story

We are so glad Annelise is now a part of our family! Her due date was July 6th but the Lord had me wait a few more days until her arrival.....perhaps He was developing more patience in me? :-) On Friday night, July 9th I actually had a migraine so I called the nurse at my OB practice to see what they thought about that, mainly because my symptoms are so scary - I get totally numb on one side, get blurry vision, can’t speak coherently though I am trying, and have a dull headache afterwards. The nurse told us to go to the ER b/c i could be having a preliminary type of stroke since I was pregnant. I didn’t really want to go b/c that is how I always feel if I have a migraine but David insisted. Turns out, all was OK but the doctor did say that it could be brought on by hormone changes.....perhaps I was getting ready to go into labor.

On Saturday, I had some Braxton-Hicks contractions but other than that nothing exciting. We spent the day with my parents and rested. David and I watched the movie, Invictus, on Saturday night and toward the end of it I thought maybe I had had a contraction. At 12 AM, I started noticing contractions and that they were about 5 minutes apart. Having been induced with Charlotte, I wasn’t sure if this was what it was supposed to be like?! I went downstairs and timed them for about 30 minutes - every 5 minutes apart. I went back upstairs and told David I was still having contractions - he replied, “well this can go on for hours, why don’t you go back to sleep?” I said, “its difficult to sleep since they are coming every 5 minutes!” This of course got David’s attention! I called the nurse who told us to head on to the hospital and David called are friends Nate and Joni to come over and stay with Charlotte. On the way to the hospital the pain factor definitely picked up! They started coming every 3 minutes by the time we checked in. I had no idea how long you have to be in triage, answering medical questions! The whole time I was thinking - can I please get my epidural?!! The nurse checked me and I was at 3 cm and effaced so we went on to my room.

Wow - talk about painful. My contractions at this point were about every minute or so and horribly painful! I had to stand up because laying down on the bed was driving me crazy. Finally after getting my IV, the anesthiologist came in for my epidural. Long story short, the epidural was more difficult going in than with Charlotte. But, the effect was well worth it! After 20 minutes or so I felt wonderful...and very tired having not gone to sleep at all. My nurse checked me at this point and said I was at 8 cm! I tried to rest some after this but kept feeling more and more pressure. I called my nurse back in and my water broke. She then started prepping the room for delivery. I felt fine at this point but started to feel even more pressure. I told my nurse that and she discovered that Annelise’s head was crowning! She told me to not push because the doctor wasn’t there yet. My doctor finally arrived, I pushed once and out Annelise Lillian Brown came! She had a head full of black hair and started crying immediately. David declared, “Its a girl!” - since I couldn’t see what was going on. We were so excited to meet this precious new life the Lord has given us.
